Thousand Buddha pagoda
Thousand Buddha pagoda is located on both sides of Yongquan temple. This pair of ceramic thousand Buddha pagodas, 6.83 meters high, was moved from Longrui temple in the southern suburb of Fuzhou in 1972 and used as the treasure of zhensi temple. In 1082, it was made of layered pottery and then put together. This kind of pagoda made of pottery is very rare in China.
Introduction to thousand Buddha pagoda
The pottery pagoda of Thousand Buddhas is called the pagoda of Thousand Buddhas in the East and the pagoda of Thousand Buddhas in the West. The two pagodas are of the same form, with nine octagonal floors. Each pagoda has 1078 sculptured Buddha statues on its wall, 72 square Buddhas on its eaves, and 72 ceramic pagoda bells. The stone tower base is engraved with Vajra, lotus petals, lion dance, etc. the inscription records the construction time, the name of the donor and the tower builder.
Historical changes
Originally in Longrui temple, it was moved to the present site in 1972 due to the destruction of the temple. The East Tower is the grand pagoda of robbing thousands of Buddhas, and the West Tower is the pagoda of robbing thousands of Buddhas. Tower firing in the Northern Song Dynasty Yuanfeng five years (AD 1082), with good clay firing, octagonal plane, nine layers, each 6.83 meters high, base diameter of 1.2 meters, wood structure outstanding Pavilion style. The tower body shrinks layer by layer, and its shape is light and exquisite. The tower body, doors and windows, columns, eaves, brackets, rafters, tiles and other components are all carved according to the wood structure shape, and then made into adobe, which is first glazed and fired by layer and section by section, and then installed according to the tenon. This is not only easy to manufacture, but also easy to move and assemble. The decoration of the pagoda is very rich. There are 1078 Buddha statues on each layer of the pagoda. On the base of the pagoda, there are King Kong's powerful posture, lions running and chasing, and various flower patterns. There are Zhenyan Buddhas on the eaves and corners of the pagodas. Under the eaves at the corners, there are Fengduo hanging. The breeze comes slowly and jingles like music. The Tasha is a triple gourd style with jewels on it. The most precious thing is that the tower base is engraved with not only the firing time and the name of the tower, but also the name of the almsgiving person and the firing craftsman. This pagoda is painted with copper glaze, with bright surface luster. It is an important object to study the development of China's ceramic technology. Moreover, it is a large clay Pagoda with such huge weight and exquisite firing, which is rare in China.
