Tianhou temple in rongshuwan
On the stone forehead of the main gate of the ancient temple, there are four words "the temple of heaven after heaven", two couplets beside them: "Heaven's dependents are gracious, the weather is smooth; after the ceremony, they are blessed, the sea is clear and the river is clear. There are no inscriptions to find out when it was founded. Many plaques in the temple belong to the reign of emperor Xuantong of Guangxu and have a history of more than 100 years. There is a plaque in 1876.
A pair of stone lions at the gate of the temple are similar to those in front of the gate of the HSBC Bank. They are similar in shape and look, but the lions of the HSBC Bank are made of copper, while the lions of the temple are carved in stone. When it was rebuilt in 1964 and completed in 1966, it happened that the Cultural Revolution broke through the four old ways and there was no stone lion export. So we had to carve stone lions in Hong Kong. At that time, there was a Mason in Lamma Island who carved stone lions for the rich in Nanyang in his early years. They were all foreign stone lions of the type of HSBC. The local people saw that Chinese stone lions were hard to find, and foreign lions were OK, so they asked him to carve these foreign lions for the purpose of guarding the temple gate. Different from Chinese stone lions, foreign lions lie horizontally in a rectangular shape, so the lion's head can't look out of the temple. It's placed horizontally on the side of the door, opposite the lion's mouth. Strange to say, since this ancient temple was guarded by a foreign lion, the fishermen in rongshuwan have been netting a thousand catties, which proves that this pair of stone lions are prosperous.
