Nanchizi Street
In Ming and Qing Dynasties, Nanchizi street was a street in the southeast corner of the imperial city. In the Qing Dynasty, it began to be called Nanchang Street, also known as donghuamenwai South Street, with the internal affairs department and the government office. In the early years of the Republic of China, Nanchizi street was connected with East Chang'an Street, and ordinary people began to live here.
On the East and west sides of Nanchizi street, there are important historical relics such as Dongyuan of Ming Dynasty, huangshicheng and Pudu Temple of Qing Dynasty, as well as large and small hutongs such as feilongqiao Hutong, xunku Hutong and ciqiku Hutong. It used to be a royal forbidden area, but today, you can enter it from the most prosperous Chang'an Street in Beijing.
Donghuamen street, Dongcheng District. It is located in the north of the Forbidden City, with a north-south trend. It starts from Donghuamen street in the north and connects with beichizi street in the South; it ends at East Chang'an Street in the South; it intersects with sanku Hutong, Changpu Heyan, West Lane of pudusi in the East; it intersects with feilongqiao Hutong, big Suzhou Hutong, small Suzhou Hutong and Yinsi Hutong in the West. Historical evolution
The streets in the southeast corner of the Imperial City in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Jiedong is commonly known as xiaonancheng, also known as Dongyuan, with Chonghua palace and Chongzhi palace. During the reign of Jingtai, Yingzong lived here. In the Qing Dynasty, it was called Nanchang Street, also known as donghuamenwai South Street, commonly known as Nanchizi. There were internal affairs bureaus, warehouses and government offices.
In the early years of the Republic of China, after the three gates were opened on the southern imperial city wall, the street began to connect with East Chang'an Street.
In 1965, biaozhangku, shitouqiao, Jianchang Fengjia, Nanjing, Yangquan, Minsheng and other hutongs were merged and renamed Nanchizi street.
It was renamed sunflower Xiangyang Road during the "Cultural Revolution" and then restored to its original name.

Huang Shicheng
No. 136 is the royal archives of Ming and Qing Dynasties, that is, Huang Shicheng. It was built in 1534 in the 13th year of Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty. It is a collection of important books and records of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, such as shengxun, yudie and so on. It was designated as a national key cultural relics protection unit in 1982.
Pudu Temple
Founded in the Ming Dynasty, formerly known as the Imperial City Dongyuan, also known as "xiaonancheng", it covers an area of nearly 10000 square meters, where the prince lives. In the early Qing Dynasty, it was the residence of Regent Dorgon. It was rebuilt and expanded in 1755. Later, it was named Pudu Temple by Qianlong. It was the last time in history that it was built 247 years ago. The architecture of Pudu temple is very unique: it is built on a high platform with low lattice. According to ancient architecture experts, this is the only place in Beijing where such typical Manchu style cultural relics are built.
Reconstruction project
After the restoration failure of warlord zhang Xun in 1917, due to various reasons, Nanchizi area was characterized by poor quality and disordered courtyard. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, with the rapid growth of the local population and financial constraints, the living conditions in Nanchizi area became worse.
At the end of 2000, on the basis of in-depth investigation and extensive argumentation, the municipal Party committee and the municipal government decided to take the renovation and reconstruction of Nanchizi historical and cultural reserve as the pilot project of the whole city, with Dongcheng District government specifically responsible for the implementation. By 2003, the renovation project of Nanchizi will be completed.
