Tushanwan Museum
Tushan Bay was originally located on the coast of Zhaojiabang in the south of Xujiahui. From 1832 to 1837, Lin Zexu, the national hero of Jiangsu Province, dredged Puhuitang and other rivers to accumulate silt. Hence the name "Tushanwan". The Tushanwan culture originated from the Tushanwan orphanage founded by the church in 1864. In addition to raising orphans, he also set up a handicraft factory, which includes painting, sculpture, printing, wood carving, metalworking, etc. many new crafts originated here. Tushanwan is also known as "the cradle of Chinese Western painting", where Ren Bonian, Liu Haisu and Xu Beihong once taught. Shanghai Tushanwan museum is built on the original site of the orphanage. It opened on "Museum Day" in June 2010. The treasure of the museum is "China archway". It shows the historical picture of cultural and artistic exchanges between China and the West in an all-round way, with rich material objects and historical materials.

The Museum of Tushanwan was established in Xuhui District.
"The Tushanwan art gallery was" excavated "in the survey of intangible cultural heritage resources in Xuhui District." It is understood that Tushan Bay is located along Zhaojiabang in the south of Xujiahui. At that time, it covered an area of about 80 mu. Due to the excavation of river course, the mud mound bay formed a highland, so it was named "Tushan bay".
In 1864, the church moved the baby rearing hall, which was founded in Hengtang, Qingpu, to this place, and founded the Tushanwan orphanage. Besides raising the orphans, it also founded the Tushanwan handicraft factory, which includes painting, sculpture, printing, wood carving, metalworking and other types of work. Many new crafts and technologies originated here, such as the Tushanwan color lithography machine, the colored glass made by Tushanwan technology and the famous "Shanghai style" boxwood carving. Among them, the drawing room is the most famous, and later generations used to call it "Tushanwan painting gallery".
Tushanwan had a great influence on Modern Chinese history, but many of its cultural relics were destroyed during the cultural revolution. " It is understood that the gallery and church sites can only be seen from some of the remaining historical photos, while the authentic oil paintings produced by Tushanwan Gallery have been basically lost. In order to save this precious historical and cultural heritage, Xuhui District will hold the "Tushanwan cultural and historical forum" on June 20, 2008, inviting 20 well-known domestic experts and scholars to attend the forum to discuss the role of "Tushanwan culture" in the modern cultural exchanges between China and the West.
The main entrance of the museum is a huge glass shed. The Tushanwan archway, which has participated in three World Expositions and made a circle around the earth, has been restored. The Chinese archway was made in 1913 and returned to China in 2009, with a repair cost of 1.8 million yuan. Following the new building, you will come to the old site of Tushanwan orphanage. Hall 1, a detailed display of the history of the formation of Xujiahui. In hall 2, there are scenes of orphans' life in those years, and oral history of the old people in Tushanwan will also be presented through electronic video. In the exhibition halls, visitors can see the scenes where foreign instructors taught painting, carpentry and book printing. These three skills are also the "three King Kong" of Tushanwan.

Xuhui District Cultural Bureau also revealed that after the return of the Tushanwan archway, the 100 wooden pagodas, which took part in the 1915 Panama world expo together with it and took China's famous 86 pagodas as the prototype, have entered their "traceability" goal. "Some of these objects are now in the Chicago Museum in the United States, and many of them are still scattered in the hands of many collectors."
