Ancient city of Yongning
The ancient city of yongningzhou was built in 1477 of the Ming Dynasty. It has experienced 537 years of ups and downs. The ancient city of Yongning was originally governed by Gutian County. It was upgraded to Zhili state in the fifth year of Longqing in the Ming Dynasty (1571), which is called "Yongning", hence the name of the ancient city of Yongning.

Yongning ancient city is located in the north of Baishou Town, Yongfu County, Guilin City, Guangxi Province, facing Baishou rock across the river. The ancient city of yongningzhou was built in 1477 of the Ming Dynasty. It has experienced 537 years of ups and downs. The ancient city was the first earthen city with a perimeter of about 1000 meters, a height of 5 meters and a thickness of more than 2 meters. In the 18th year of Chenghua, it was changed into a stone city; in the 6th year of Longqing (1572), the ancient city was widened more than 80 meters to the west, and four gates were built. The east gate was called "Dongxing gate", the south gate was called "Zhenning gate", the west gate was called "anding gate", and the north gate was called "Yingen gate". In the third year of Wanli, the city wall was increased to 1.3 meters and thickened to 0.6 meters; in the eighth year of Wanli (1580), the ancient city was further extended to the north by 100 meters, with a perimeter of 1277 meters, a height of 6.33 meters and a thickness of 3.2 meters. There were 637 battlements, 12 Wopu, 4 bingmasi, and gatehouses built on the four gates. In the fourteenth year of Wanli (1586), more than 430 meters of moat was built in the east of the ancient city. The city wall was thickened again and women's walls were added.

But it can go through more than 500 years of ups and downs, but also relatively intact preserved, can not but be said to be a miracle.
The ancient city of Yongning is located in the dangerous area from Guilin to Rong'an, where only one ancient road passes through the Grand Canyon. The ancient city is built in the place where the ancient road must pass. There are natural rivers on both sides as moats, and there are mountains and mountains around for tens of kilometers. Six kilometers to the north, there is a dangerous pass, Santai mountain (formerly known as san'e mountain), which stretches more than ten kilometers. The ancient city of Yongning is located on the ancient road under the dangerous pass of santailing. It is like a pass, which can be attacked when entering and defended when retreating.
Historical deeds
According to Yongfu county annals, after the fifth year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1492), the Zhuang peasant uprising team led by Wei Chaowei, Qin Wanxian and Wei Yinbao once occupied the ancient city of Yongning for more than 80 years, making this ancient city in the mountains once the center of Guangxi peasant uprising.
In 1672 A.D., the north and South towers were burned down by fire, and many parts of the city walls collapsed and were later restored. In 1902, Qin Laofa's anti Qing struggle broke out nearby. The anti Qing troops moved to Yongning, and the city was in danger. The Qing Dynasty sent large troops to reinforce the ancient city.
In the 12th year of the Republic of China, Wei houfan, a local bandit, was recruited by the Guilin autonomous army and settled in the ancient city of Yongning, claiming to be the county magistrate. He paid taxes and distributed grain to the people, causing riots among the people. Thousands of local people, armed with knives, spears and fireguns, attacked the ancient city fiercely for many days. However, it is difficult to capture the stone city because it is strong. After the mob besieged the ancient city for seven days and nights, Wei jiugou was forced to surrender to the mob.
In the 24th year of the Republic of China, the people of Zhongdu, Rongan and Baishou counties opposed the "three self and three residence" policy and the "national military training" implemented by Guangxi. A young man in Rongan County evaded military training and was shot by the government, which aroused a riot among 7000 or 8000 people. On August 26 of that year, more than 2000 people attacked the ancient city of Yongning. However, due to the inferior weapons, the masses were unable to break through the solid and high stone city for a while. After the Kuomintang troops arrived, the siegers were forced to disperse and flee quickly.
In the 33rd year of the Republic of China, the Japanese aggressors invaded Baishou and occupied the ancient city of Yongning twice for eight months. During this period, there were more than 160 battles between the Anti Japanese self defense force and the Japanese army.
In the 38th year of the Republic of China, the whole country was approaching liberation. The 13th army of the Kuomintang "Guangxi anti Communist and save the national army" had two divisions, and the 172nd division of the seventh army had more than 5000 people retreating to Baishou, in an attempt to seize the ancient city and resist tenaciously. The 146th and 147th divisions of the 49th army of the Chinese people's Liberation Army surrounded Baishou. In order to protect people's lives and property, the PLA urged the enemy commander Zhou zuhuang to surrender. More than ten thousand enemies laid down their weapons and surrendered one after another when there was no way out. The ancient city was completely preserved from the bombardment of artillery.
