The temple was founded in the fourth year of Zhizheng reign of the Yuan Dynasty (according to the website of Mentougou District Culture Committee, it was founded in the Liao Dynasty and rebuilt in the fourth year of Zhizheng reign of the Yuan Dynasty (1344)). It is called Qingshui temple, formerly known as Huanglong Buddhist temple. From the ninth year of Xuande to the second year of Zhengtong in Ming Dynasty, Wu Liang, the eunuch of Si Li, donated money to rebuild the temple, and Ming Yingzong named it "Chonghua Temple". In the eighth year of Chenghua, ten pagodas were built. In the sixteenth year of Chenghua, Emperor Xianzong of the Ming Dynasty issued an edict to protect Chonghua temple, which was destroyed by the earthquake. Now there are only six stone inscriptions and one cliff inscription. The original temple covers an area of more than 60 mu and has a history of more than 600 years. The temple is surrounded by mountains on three sides, facing water on one side, and surrounded by luxuriant trees. In front of the temple, there are two ancient ginkgo trees towering into the clouds, more than 800 years ago. At present, the temple is dilapidated, with only ruins left. Several stone tablets remain behind the temple, which has become a historical witness of the rise and fall of the temple. At present, the temple is under repair. According to the site construction personnel, it is expected to open to the public in 2017.
Chonghua Temple
There are many places of interest in Mentougou District of Beijing. There are only two on the hillside of Jiulong Mountain in Chengzi Village. One is Chonghua temple and the other is Zhou Ziqi's tomb. It was first built in the fourth year of the Yuan Dynasty (1344). At that time, it was named "Qingshui Temple", because there were many clear springs and streams around the temple.
Architectural features
Chonghua temple is located in Chunhua Village (Chonghua Village) in the West (North) of Chengzi Village. The temple was originally the lower courtyard of Tanzhe Temple. It is not known when the temple was built. But it seems that it will never be later than the Yuan Dynasty. Before 1958, the temple had dilapidated walls (with the words "Tanzhe Temple Xiayuan" on it, black, two foot square, Chu suiliang style; horizontal row), Mountain Gate, main hall and several Zen houses (which had been used as animal pens for production teams at that time). There was a huge Ginkgo tree and clear flowing mountain spring in the temple. On the mountain behind the temple, there were two or three remaining small pagodas and scriptures The small pagoda is less than two meters high, and its shape is very similar to the White Pagoda of the White Pagoda Temple. Later I learned that this was the monk's tomb. The overall impression is that the original scale of this temple must be no less than that of today's Guangji temple and Baita temple.
Chonghua temple was destroyed in the earthquake, and now only remains. Remains of Steles can also be found in the site, such as the stele of Qingshui temple in Longmen Mountain and the stele of Chizhi Chonghua temple, which records the long history of Chonghua temple. In the east of the temple site, on a mountain stream valley, there is a cross stream cave built by huge stones. There is an exquisite stone pagoda on the platform of the cave. Because of the water flowing under the pagoda, it is called "water passing tower". Now there is no stone pagoda, but the stone cave at the bottom is well preserved. According to experts, the "water tower" was built in the Yuan Dynasty and is said to be the only water tower in Beijing.
Tourism development
Chengzi Village is engaged in tourism development, temple restoration project has just begun, and construction has begun in some places. Stone components can be seen everywhere in the site, either built along the ditch, pool, or scattered in the mountain ridge. Stone carving flowers and animals. There is a clear spring in the gully. The water is sweet and clear. It flows continuously all the year round. From time to time, you can see city people carrying buckets come here to tap the mountain spring.
