Weiyuan building
Weiyuan tower, also known as Drum Tower, is located in the center of Longxi County, Gansu Province.
Weiyuan building was built in 1053, the fifth year of emperor Renzong's reign in Northern Song Dynasty. After zhanweizhai was built in Weizhou, Han Qi planned to build a qiaolou in Beifang, one mile to the east of the city, which was named "Weiyuan building", meaning to be far away.
Development history
Weiyuan building was built in the reign of Renzong in the Northern Song Dynasty. Meng Bu wrote a poem praising: "Han gong'an came to visit the wind of Qin Dynasty, and Weiyuan building was built in Weibin. Looking at the West Earth Moon, the banners and banners have been jingshuo and Fangchen." In the fourth year of emperor you's reign, Han Qi built a first floor in the east of the city, named Weiyuan building, to strengthen his military equipment. In the early Yuan Dynasty, when Wang Shixian and his son expanded the city, they moved the Weiyuan building into the city. In 1341 A.D., the government put the bronze pot for timing and the Genggu for telling the time upstairs, so it is commonly known as the drum tower. In the early Ming Dynasty, due to the decay of the building wood, the construction was re recorded. First of all, a huge brick pier platform was built, on which a wooden high-rise building was built. Its appearance was more magnificent, so it was renamed "xiongzhenlou". The giant plaques of "gongchang Xiongzhen" and "Shengwen Sida" were hung high. In the 55th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, it was expanded and rebuilt into a brick based three-story wooden building. The bronze bell, which was cast in 1102, was moved upstairs. The sound of the bell was heard for more than ten li, and the bell drum tower of Ming Dynasty was popular. Weiyuan building has a history of more than 900 years and has undergone modern maintenance and expansion. Now Weiyuan building is a three-story wooden building with brick foundation. The base is 11 meters high, 27 meters long, 17 meters wide, 15 meters high and 26 meters high. On the first floor, there are 24 pillars, on the third floor, there are all frontal cornices with 102 painted brackets under the eaves. The beams in the building support and restrict each other, and the structure is compact. It is a majestic building in Longxi, with the animal head hanging down, the head high squatting, and the animal covered by the ridge.
It is said that in the 16th year of Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1836 AD), the local officials and gentry wanted to move the 4-ton bronze bell upstairs. However, because the foundation of the building was more than 10 meters high, no one could do anything. An old farmer in ragged clothes sneered. Seeing this, the sheriff asked the old farmer if there was any good way. The old farmer replied coldly: I'm a man with dirt on my neck. What else can I do. When the sheriff heard the words, he suddenly realized that it was urgent to transport the earth. The bell was slowly transported to the upstairs along the slope. The clock is still hanging on the upper floor of Weiyuan, which is a national first-class cultural relic.
Another story is that the Haiyuan 8.5 earthquake in Ningxia on December 16, 1920 affected the local area of Longxi, and there was a 3-inch wide crack in the base of the impregnable Weiyuan building. Later, a skillful craftsman made a few big nails on the crack. Surprisingly, the crack closed slowly. It is said that you can still see those iron nails in Weiyuan building.
Since 1958, Longxi County Government has organized human resources to repair Weiyuan building for many times, with carved beams, painted buildings and blue and white paintings. It is a magnificent building in Longxi. During the Spring Festival, visitors can climb the building and have a bird's-eye view of the county.
On February 11, 1963, Gansu Provincial People's Committee announced that it was a provincial cultural relics protection unit.
On May 3, 2013, the State Council approved and released the list of the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units. Among the 1943 national key cultural relics protection lists, Longxi Weiyuan building was included in the list of ancient buildings protection. No. 7-1457-3-755.
