At night, he observed the sky, drew star maps and made in-depth research on astronomy, geography and meteorology. The people in the vicinity of cha'an respect the knowledge and conduct of the eminent monks. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, there was a Jinshi named Chen Wude in the open sea. Development history
Cha'an temple was founded by Tang Yixing master (common name: Zhang Suihe, from Nanle County, and Zu Chongzhi, Zhang Heng, Li Shizhen)
And other outstanding scientists in ancient China. He once made the astronomical instrument "Zodiac travel instrument"), which is called jiemao nunnery. He planted tea to see the stars and cultivated both inside and outside. However, after years of vicissitudes, the existing original building was restored during the reign of Guangchu, which is a municipal cultural relic of Jiangmen.
Located at the foot of Wuma Guicao mountain in WAIHAI Town, Jianghai District, it is about 10 kilometers away from the urban area. It is a good place with beautiful scenery. The origin of the name
Cha'an temple is also called "liuzu Temple"
Cha'an temple was originally built to commemorate Yixing Zen master of Tang Dynasty, but the temple also worships the sixth patriarch of Zen Buddhism. What's the reason? There is a story to tell.
It is said that when the Zen Buddhism spread to Hongren, the fifth patriarch of Buddhism, Hongren wanted to pass on the mantle to the next generation, so he called his disciples together and ordered them to recite a Buddhist verse to judge which disciple could pass on the mantle. The eldest disciple, Shen Xiu, was determined to get it. He immediately stood up from his seat and answered in a loud voice: "his body is like a bodhi tree, and his heart is like a mirror platform. He should brush it frequently to avoid dust." As soon as the sutra was recited, it immediately won the praise of many disciples. At that time, Hongren just smiles and doesn't say yes or no. Huineng, a Dianzuo disciple who usually works in the Xiangji kitchen, also recites: "Bodhi has no tree, and the mirror is not a platform; there is nothing, where is the dust." Zen Buddhism stresses "nothingness" and "emptiness", and stresses "becoming Buddha by seeing one's nature".
Therefore, Huineng was finally appreciated by Hongren and regarded as an ideal successor. However, in view of the great power of Shenxiu party at that time, Hongren had to secretly pass the mantle to Huineng and told him to run away overnight.
It is said that when Huineng escaped the pursuit of Shenxiu, he remembered the five ancestors' explanation of "stop when you are pregnant, and hide when you meet", so he traveled to Jielu of cha'an Temple (Xinhui at that time) to practice. Therefore, after the completion of cha'an temple, there is also a statue of Huineng, the sixth patriarch. Therefore, cha'an temple is also called "sixth patriarch Temple".

The first person in the world to calculate the meridian length
Zhang Sui, a famous monk, was born in Le County, Henan Province. He was as famous as Zu Chongzhi, Zhang Heng and other outstanding scientists in ancient China. He devoted all his life to astronomical research. He once produced an astronomical instrument called "Zodiac traveller", which redefined the positions of more than 150 stars. He discovered the phenomenon of stellar motion for the first time, 1000 years earlier than British astronomer Harley's view of stellar self motion in 1712. He was also the first person in the world to calculate the length of the earth's meridian. He presided over the compilation of the astronomical calendar Dayan calendar, which was the most precise calendar at that time, which was a great achievement under the conditions of that time. Together with Liang lingzan, the group also designed and manufactured a water-powered huntian copper instrument, engraved with the sun, moon and stars, rotating one cycle every day and night, in line with the astronomical phenomena. What's more wonderful is that there are two wooden people in the instrument, one can beat the drum every moment, and the other can ring the bell every hour, which can be automatic on time. It is not only an astronomical instrument, but also the earliest timer with mechanical rotation in the world.
