Monument to the Red Army martyrs of the Soviet Union
The monument to the martyrs of the Soviet Red Army is located on the west side of the Museum Square in Nangang District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. It was built by the headquarters of the Soviet Red Army in 1945 to commemorate the Soviet soldiers who died in the war against the Japanese aggressors. It is a kind of historical building in Harbin.
On November 11, 1997, when former Russian President Yeltsin visited Harbin, he laid a wreath in front of the monument to commemorate the Russian martyrs.
Architectural features
The monument to the martyrs of the Red Army of the Soviet Union is located in front of the northern theater in the museum square of Nangang District, Harbin city. There stands a bronze "monument to the martyrs of the Red Army of the Soviet Union", which was built by the headquarters of the Red Army of the Soviet Union in 1945 to commemorate the Soviet soldiers who died in the war against the Japanese aggressors.
The monument tower of the Soviet Red Army martyrs is about 18 meters high, which is divided into five parts: base, base, main tower, tower body and bronze statue. The bronze statue, 3.5 meters high and 2 meters wide, consists of two statues of Red Army sailors and Army soldiers of the former Soviet Union. The front and back of the tower are respectively inlaid with four red flags made of copper and the party emblem of scythes, axes and ears of wheat. The main tower is cone-shaped, with the national emblem of the former Soviet Union inlaid on all sides, and the Russian inscription inlaid with copper below reads: "for the freedom and independence of the union of Soviet republics, the heroes who died in battle will never die.". On the white marble slab above the broad base, the Chinese inscription reads: "for China's freedom and independence, the Soviet heroes who died in the war of liberation of Northeast China will live forever.".
Architectural history
The monument to the martyrs of the Soviet Red Army, located in the west side of the Museum Square in Nangang District, Harbin, started construction in August 1945 and was completed on November 7 of the same year. The Soviet headquarters was set up to commemorate the Soviet soldiers who died in the war against Japanese fascism.
On November 11, 1997, when former Russian President Boris Yeltsin visited Harbin, he laid a wreath in front of the monument of Soviet Red Army martyrs to mourn the Russian martyrs.
In November 2010, it was listed as the fourth batch of historical buildings in Harbin.
