It has been named as the national popular science education base by the China Association for science and technology, and the National Youth Science and technology education base by the Ministry of science and technology, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, and the China Association for science and technology. Beijing Guo Shoujing memorial hall is located in Huitong ancestral hall. It is divided into three exhibition halls to show visitors Guo Shoujing's life and achievements. November 2016 is the 785th anniversary of Guo Shoujing's birth.
On February 18, 2020, Guo Shoujing memorial hall was awarded "Hebei Science Popularization demonstration base (the first batch)".
Memorial Hall
Guo Shoujing, born in Xingtai, Hebei Province, was an outstanding expert in astronomy, water conservancy, mathematics and instrument manufacturing in Yuan Dynasty. In his life, he made more than 20 achievements in science and technology, far ahead of the world level, and made great contributions to the development of human science. In the 1970s, the International Astronomical organization named a crater on the back of the moon and an asteroid named 2012 after Guo Shoujing. Monument of hometown
In his youth, Guo Shoujing presided over the dredging of three long flooded rivers, namely liaoshui, dahuoquan and yehuquan in the north of Xingzhou City, and repaired the stone bridge on dahuoquan, which not only facilitated the traffic between the north and the south, but also irrigated the surrounding farmland. Guo Shoujing built a white marble bridge in dahuoquan, where he built the bridge. The purpose of building Guo Shoujing memorial hall is to commemorate Guo Shoujing's contribution to water control and river dredging in Xingzhou in his early years. On the square in front of Guo Shoujing's gate stands a stone tablet with the words "Guo Shoujing's hometown" written by Lu Yongxiang, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, on the occasion of Guo Shoujing's 770th birthday in 2001.
gate
The plaque "Guo Shoujing Memorial Hall" hanging above the gate of Guo Shoujing memorial hall was inscribed by Hu Yaobang, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, in December 1985. The couplets on both sides of the gate "water control achievements, rivers grow in the sky, the sun and the moon shine together." It was inscribed by Lu Jiaxi, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, in September 1994.
The stone facing the gate of the memorial hall is 2.17 meters high and 2.23 meters wide, including the base. On the front of the stone is engraved with the preface of the exhibition of Guo Shoujing's life and achievements: "Guo Shoujing (1231-1316), born in Xingtai, Hebei Province, was an outstanding scientist of yuan Dynasty in China. He has made outstanding achievements in astronomy, water conservancy, mathematics, instrument manufacturing and so on. He has more than 20 inventions, which are far ahead of the world level. He has made great contributions to the development of human science
bronze statue
The bronze statue of Guo Shoujing is located in dahuoquan Park, Xingtai City. It is 4.1 meters high and 3.5 tons heavy. It was completed on December 6, 1985. It was designed by Fu Tianqiu, Professor of Sculpture Department of Central Academy of fine arts, member of National Urban Sculpture Committee and secretary general, and cast by Beijing Institute of mechanical and electrical engineering. The bronze statue of Guo Shoujing has two bright eyes, which seem to contain infinite wisdom. The hard and slightly upturned beard reflects the strong will and practical spirit of Guo Gong. He holds four volumes of drawings, which represent the four aspects of Guo Shoujing's great scientific and technological achievements, namely, astronomy, water conservancy, mathematics and instrument manufacturing. The four dots on the astronomical scroll represent constellations. The wind blows the robe, which is floating and moving He is not only a scientist, but also a practical activist.
Observatory
The observatory is also called "shadow observation platform". It is located behind the bronze statue of Guo Shoujing in dahuoquan Park, Xingtai. It is an architectural altimeter used to measure the length of the sun shadow. Liu Bingyan inscribed the three characters "star watching platform" on it. In 1279, Guo Shoujing presided over the famous four seas test. During this period, he personally presided over the construction of Henan Dengfeng Observatory, which has been listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. The observatory was imitated according to the ratio of 1:1 of Dengfeng observatory. It is composed of two parts, one is the terrace building, the other is the stone GUI paved from the north wall groove of the terrace to the north. The height of the platform is 8.9 meters, the height of the observation room on the top of the platform is 11.96 meters, the East-West length of the platform bottom is 16.85 meters, the North-South length is 16.37 meters, the East-West length of the platform top is 8.05 meters, and the North-South length is 7.55 meters. Astronomical instruments, such as simple instruments and elevation instruments, can be placed on the top of the platform to observe the sun, moon and stars. Between the two observation rooms, a copper bar with a length of 1.97 meters and a diameter of 0.08 meters is placed horizontally, which is also called beam. Under the beam is a stone GUI, 31.39 meters long, 0.53 meters wide, 0.4 meters above the ground, made of 36 pieces of bluestones. Guimian has scale, so Shigui is also called Tianchi. The stone GUI, groove and crossbeam form a GUI watch, which can observe the shadow of the sun. At noon, when the sun rises to the upper middle of the sky, that is, due to the south, the shadow of the crossbeam is cast on a certain scale. By continuously observing the length of the shadow of the crossbeam, we can calculate the length of the regression year and the time of the 24 solar terms. At that time, Guo Shoujing used this method to measure the length of a regression year as 365.2425 days.
Screen wall
Located in front of the gate of Guo Shoujing Memorial Hall in Xingtai, the large ceramic screen wall of Guo Shoujing's life achievement is 11.2 meters long and 4.5 meters high. In October 1986, Mr. Zhou Peiyuan, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference and professor of Peking University, inscribed the inscription "worshiping the pioneers of observing images for generations". Yinmian is a group of large ceramic murals with Guo Shoujing as the theme. This painting was designed by Mr. Qi Menghui, an associate professor of Hebei Normal University and fired in Cizhou kiln, Hebei Province. On the screen, Guo Shoujing holds a ruler in his left hand and a pen in his right hand. He seems to be writing books, deriving calculus or designing instruments. The green pines, cranes and the sun behind Guo Gong symbolize the achievements and spirit of the sages. They shine on the sun and the moon forever. On both sides of the picture are upright pillars, like two monuments of Guo Shoujing's great achievements. The rivers, bridges, water conservancy irrigation, farmland cultivation, grain sericulture and so on in the picture reflect Guo Gong's great achievements of taking agriculture as the foundation, observing images and giving time, building water conservancy and benefiting future generations. Guo Shoujing's achievements in astronomy are reflected by the simple instrument, armillary sphere, observatory, and twenty eight constellations on both sides of the column. This mural is vivid and vivid. It integrates Guo Gong's many scientific and technological achievements, and embodies the connotation of "the achievements of the sages are brilliant, and the monuments will always inspire the posterity".
