King's College (KC) was founded in 1926. Its predecessor was xiyingpan school (later moved to today's Lisheng primary school), which was founded in 1879. It is a well-known men's Government Secondary School in Bonham Road, Hong Kong. Secondary 6 and 7 recruit girls. It is one of 114 schools with English as the teaching language, commonly known as English secondary school.
King's College
King's College (Hong Kong) is a famous men's school located in Banham road in the western half of Hong Kong. The college is one of the traditional famous schools in Hong Kong. The school building on Bonham road is built of red brick. It is the oldest existing official college building. Apart from the new wing, the whole Bonham road school building of King's college has been rated as a statutory monument by the Hong Kong antiquities and monuments office. School buildings belong to the Edwardian neoclassicism style of English school buildings. King's college is one of the English secondary schools in Hong Kong.
It is the first full-time secondary school in Hong Kong after the war. Its predecessor was the West Point school established by the government in 1857 and the Sai Ying Pun school established in 1879. Later, it was upgraded to today's King's College in 1926. It inherited the educational system of the Central College and lasted for nearly 100 years. At the beginning of its establishment, the people named it "new academy" to distinguish it from Huangren Academy in Sheung Wan at that time.
At present, the school building on Bonham road was built in 1923 and completed in 1926. College students are good at science. Most of the graduates and their descendants are celebrities.
History of development
The period of Xijiao government school (1857-1879)
The establishment of King's college can be traced back to 1857. In the 1850s, the school education model had taken shape. Schools in Hong Kong are mainly composed of libraries run by villages and towns, Royal libraries funded by the government and academies run by Christian and Catholic churches. Royal libraries are usually promoted by more enlightened local libraries in order to get government funding. The number of hosts who have to accept new things and teach students in new subjects is also increasing, from five in 1854 to 19 in 1859. The West Point school was one of the Royal libraries at that time. It was the predecessor of the West Point school and the king's college. It was founded in West Point in 1857. West Point government school later developed into King's college, which inherited the legacy of its predecessor and made it the oldest existing government school in Hong Kong, with a history of 160 years. The West Point government school was located in the west point at that time. It was set up by the government (English: free village school) and operated with the support of government funds. It was listed as a government school or government schools during the colonial period. In the same year, the rules and regulations for government schools was promulgated, formulated by Rev. W. lobscheid of the Royal College of Library supervision, and approved by Sir John Bowring, governor of Hong Kong. In 1861, the school had 52 students. Four classes were set up when the school was founded. Mr. Li King Chau was the first president of Xijiao government school. He served as president since 1857 and died in 1870. Mr. Che lunge was a teacher when the school was founded, while Mr. Chu Atuk was appointed as an English teacher in 1859. He also taught at Taipingshan school. In 1866, the school was divided into two parts: the local department and the Hakka department. After President Li died in 1870, Lau HIU Tung and IP Cheung Shin took over the posts of local and Hakka presidents respectively. In 1878, Chan Fong was appointed as another local president. In 1879, Mr. Feng Fu was appointed as another local president, and he was also the first president of the government run xiyingpan college.
In 1859, the number of male students was 62, which could be divided into four classes. The local and Hakka schools first recruited female students in 1868 and 1872, respectively. From 1876 to 1878, the number of local female students increased significantly, and the total number of local students reached 100 in 1876. According to the Hong Kong Yuanmen newspaper (now known as the Hong Kong Government Gazette) and the Hong Kong government blue book from 1857 to 1859, the total number of students in West Point government school increased to 200 in the last few years. Class hours are from 6 am to 8 am, 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4.30 pm. The local department is the second most efficient in the public order. The teachers of West Point government school mainly teach English, Chinese basic books, classic books and geography. They also provide local and foreign famous classics for students to read, including New Testament, kindergarten, sacred history, three character Scripture, thousand character essay and ten commandments There are also some English books, such as series of lessons, Morrison's Chinese English grammar, circle of knowledge and geography.
Xiyingpan school period (1879-1926)

In 1877, when governor Hennessy took office, he vigorously promoted local and church run schools. In order to cope with the growth of school-age children, he set up an additional junior high school. Besides teaching traditional Chinese subjects, he also taught English, known as the official English Academy. From 1865 to 1891, the Hong Kong government opened six official English academies in Sai Ying Pun, Yau Ma Tei, Wan Chai, Stanley, Wong Nai Chung and Shau Kei Wan. When the Chinese and Western Ying Pun Academy was established at 35-41 Third Street in 1879, it opened classes 8-4 (primary 5-secondary 3) and appointed graduates who had just returned from studying in the United States Mr. Fung Fu was the first president. He had lived and received education in the United States. The official xiyingpan academy has been translated into xiyingpan academy or xiyingpan official school. Among the students who had studied with Dr. Sun Yat Sen, namely, the first students of the Western medical college, are Mr. Jiang yunwan and Mr. Liu Sifu. Jiang and Liu are graduates of xiyingpan college. Both of them entered the Hong Kong Academy of Western medicine with Dr. Sun Yat sen in 1887. Liu graduated in 1895 and obtained the qualification of Western medicine. Mr. Liu Sifu and Dr. Sun Yat Sen are the oldest students in the history of the University of Hong Kong.
Pokfulam Road School Building
In 1891, the six English academies were merged into three. The number of students in Kwun lap Ying Pun college increased to 146. The Third Street School was inadequate. Under the proposal of Dr. Audrey, the school supervisor of the Secretary for education, the school was moved to 119 high street to accommodate all the students in Kwun lap Ying Pun college. In 1903, the president was replaced by Mr w h Williams, but two years later, he was transferred to Victoria British school on Hong Kong Island. The number of students was 95 at that time. In 1905, xiyingpan college was replaced by Mr Alfred Morris. The number of students was 44 at that time. By 1906, the number of students admitted to the government's xiyingpan school had increased, and the school buildings were inadequate. The administrative report of the Hong Kong Government in 1922 recorded the subject courses of the official Sai Ying Pun college, including history, English, Chinese and English writing, mathematics, geography, map application, writing and fine arts. At that time, the students of Guanli xiyingpan college raised eight hundred yuan for Swatow relief fund. The Scouts of Guanli xiyingpan college helped charitable Association raise a total of 11000 yuan on the street. When Morris was president, he advanced the winter time to the same time as the summer time. Students of Sai Ying Pun college were awarded the ralphs shield of St. John's rescue team. By 1909, the number of students had increased to 403. Once again, the high street school was inadequate and had to be relocated. At that time, the governor of Hong Kong, Robert Stuart, attached great importance to English education in Hong Kong.
