Sofia church, the landmark building in the scenic spot, is the most perfect typical Byzantine architecture in China. This building, which was born nearly a century ago, is full of charming colors. The murals, chandeliers, bell tower, dome and choir in the church all show rich and colorful cultural landscape and unique artistic features, which has high historical and cultural value and architectural art appreciation value.

Museum History

The dome on the roof of the hall was demolished and restored in 2004 to be "Harbin Jewish history and Culture Museum".

St. Sophia Church was originally built in 1923 when Russia built the Middle East Railway. It was built in 1932. It covers an area of 721 square meters and is 53.35 meters high. In 1986, the church was listed as a municipal class I protected building by Harbin municipal government. In 1996, it was approved as a national key cultural relics protection unit by the State Council. In 1997, Harbin carried out comprehensive renovation on the church and its surrounding areas, demolished houses, moved out residents, built a square, repaired the church building, and built it as Harbin Architectural Art Museum.

In 2009, Harbin submitted an application to the State Administration of cultural relics for the evaluation of Harbin Architectural Art Museum. On May 18, 2010, the State Administration of cultural relics officially issued the national secondary Museum sign.

The underground exhibition hall has a total construction area of 3972 square meters. It is the first modern exhibition hall in Harbin. In Harbin Architectural Art Museum, there is a 1:600 miniature landscape model of Harbin City, covering an area of 396 square meters, which is the second largest city in China.

The New Synagogue shows "gazing at architectural art exhibition" and "Jews in Harbin historical and cultural exhibition". The historical pictures and materials in the hall show the important position and outstanding contribution of the Jewish people in the history of mankind, and reproduce the life history of the Jews in Harbin.
