Jilin Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly affiliated to the Ministry of chemical industry) was founded in 1958. It is the only chemical university in Jilin Province. After several generations of exploration and practice, it has accumulated profound cultural heritage and formed a distinctive school running feature of "school enterprise cooperation, education and talent". In the chemical industry, mechanical and electrical and other traditional disciplines, it has been in the leading position in the province, and has made important contributions to the national and local economic construction and social development.

Covering an area of 860000 square meters, the school has 14 teaching departments, and its specialties cover six disciplines, including engineering, science, economics, management, arts and medicine. It has achieved multi-level running of master's, undergraduate and higher vocational education, with more than 15000 full-time students. The university pays attention to connotation development, and has a strong faculty. Among the full-time teachers, there are more than 300 people with senior professional and technical titles, and more than 500 people with master's and doctor's degrees. The school has 6 recipients of government subsidies from the State Council, 32 senior experts from Jilin Province, excellent talents from the Ministry of education in the new century, and young and middle-aged professional and technical talents with outstanding contributions from Jilin Province.

The school pays attention to the cultivation of students' innovative spirit and practical ability, and has achieved remarkable teaching results. At present, there are 2 national characteristic majors, 7 provincial characteristic majors, 4 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers and 1 provincial college students' scientific and technological innovation practice demonstration base. In 2007, the University obtained excellent results in undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education; in 2009, chemical engineering and technology became the first major in Jilin Province and the first one in the national local engineering colleges to pass the engineering education professional certification of the Ministry of education; in 2011, the University became the second batch of "excellent engineer education and training plan" universities of the Ministry of education. In recent two years, it has won 9 teaching achievement awards of Jilin Province. In the national "Challenge Cup" and other student subject competitions, our students have won 41 national awards and 354 provincial and ministerial awards.

The University adheres to the road of combining production, teaching and research, and its scientific research level has been improved year by year. At present, it has 2 provincial advantageous and characteristic disciplines, 9 provincial scientific research platforms such as provincial key laboratory, key engineering research center, industry university research cooperation demonstration base, science and technology innovation center, and 1 Provincial College Student Science Park. In recent years, the university has undertaken more than 170 scientific research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the philosophy and Social Science Foundation of China, and has won more than 20 national and provincial science and technology awards. Adhering to the strategy of "revitalizing the university through science and education and strengthening the university through talents", the university has filled the gaps in the research fields of chemical process simulation and analysis, heat exchange network optimization and energy saving, and has a wide influence in China; it has obvious advantages in the research fields of fine chemicals development, nondestructive testing, fluid sealing, new water pollution control technology, etc. The University actively promotes the transformation of high-tech achievements, has outstanding advantages in the combination of production, teaching and research, and has created more than 1.4 billion yuan of economic benefits for enterprises and society.

The school widely carries out international exchanges and cooperation, and actively builds a growth platform for students. At present, it has established educational exchanges and cooperation with more than 20 universities and scientific research institutes in Japan, South Korea, the United States and Ukraine, and successfully carried out multi-mode cooperation in running schools such as 2 + 2, 1 + 2 + 1, 4 + 1.
