Hubei University is a provincial key Comprehensive University jointly built by the people's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of education. The school is located in Wuhan, the central city of central China and the capital of Hubei Province. It has three campuses, including Wuchang main campus, Hankou campus and Yangluo campus, covering a total area of more than 2000 mu. The school is the "best civilized unit" in Hubei Province.

In 1931, the predecessor of the school, Hubei Provincial Institute of education, was born in baoji'an, Wuchang. Since then, it has passed through the periods of national Hubei Normal University, Hubei Provincial Institute of education, Hubei teachers' training college, Hubei Normal College, Wuhan normal college and Wuhan normal college. In August 1984, it was renamed Hubei University. In July 2013, the people's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of education signed a document to jointly build Hubei University.
