Gansu Animal Husbandry Engineering Vocational and technical college is a general college at the junior college level, which was established by Gansu animal husbandry school and Gansu Agricultural Mechanization School with the approval of Gansu Provincial People's Government in June 2004.

The former Gansu animal husbandry school was founded in September 1952, formerly known as "Xi'an animal husbandry school", which is under the management of the animal husbandry department of the northwest military and political Commission. In 1954, the school was transferred to Gansu Province. In 1958, the school was moved from Xi'an city to Huangyang town and renamed "Gansu animal husbandry school", which is subordinate to the Department of agriculture and animal husbandry of Gansu Province. In 1960, Gansu animal husbandry and veterinary college was established with the approval of Gansu provincial Party committee. In 1961, Gansu animal husbandry and veterinary college was abolished. In 1970, the college was transferred to the former Wuwei area and renamed as "animal husbandry School of Wuwei area of Gansu Province". In 1979, the school was returned to Gansu Provincial Administration of agriculture and animal husbandry and the name of "animal husbandry School of Gansu Province" was restored. In 1980, 1994 and 2000, the school was awarded the national key technical secondary school. The former Agricultural Mechanization School of Gansu Province was founded in 1958. In 1960, it was approved by the people's Government of Gansu Province to establish "Gansu agricultural mechanization college". In 1961, it was cancelled and its original name was restored. In 1969, the internship factory was changed into "Gansu No.2 tractor parts factory". The school was attached to the factory and became a "factory run school" under Gansu Machinery Industry Bureau. In 1975, the name of "Gansu Agricultural Mechanization School" was restored and it was subordinate to Gansu Agricultural Machinery Administration Bureau. In 2000, the institutional reform was under the leadership of Gansu Agriculture and animal husbandry department. In 2001, it was rated as a national key technical secondary school. The two schools are neighbors, with complementary advantages, exchanges and cooperation. In the course of running the school for more than 50 years, they have trained more than 43000 professional and technical personnel of animal husbandry and veterinary, mechanical and electrical engineering, and made important contributions to the local economic and social development. The college has been awarded the "national advanced collective of Vocational and technical education" by the State Education Commission, Planning Commission and Ministry of labor; the "advanced unit of secondary agricultural education reform" and "advanced unit of strengthening practical teaching to serve rural economic construction" by the Ministry of agriculture; the "advanced unit of national education system" by the State Education Commission and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League; and the "advanced unit of Gansu Province" by the provincial Party committee and the provincial government Advanced collective of vocational education, etc. 13 teachers were awarded the honorary titles of "national excellent teachers", "national excellent teachers of secondary agricultural schools", "excellent teachers of the Ministry of agriculture", "gardener award of Gansu Province", "advanced individual of vocational education of Gansu Province" by the Ministry of education, the Ministry of agriculture, the provincial Party committee and the provincial government. The combination of the two schools established a higher vocational college, which has achieved great leap forward development and entered a new period of development.

The college has 57 years of experience in running a school, and has accumulated rich experience and strong strength in running a school. At present, Gansu Animal Husbandry Engineering Vocational and technical college has become the cradle of training Animal Husbandry and veterinary and mechanical and electrical engineering talents in our province.

The college is located in Huangyang Town, Wuwei City, an important town of the ancient Silk Road, covering an area of 2131.15 mu, including 634 mu of campus, nearly 1500 mu of training base, 200000 square meters of building area and 134 million yuan of fixed assets. 12.6546 million yuan of teaching instruments and equipment. There are 52 professional laboratories for nutrition feed, infectious diseases, food detection, automatic control, mold, automobile circuit, 5 basic course teaching laboratories for physics, chemistry and computer, and 25 in school laboratories for livestock breeding center, animal hospital, electronic technology training base, practice factory, automobile driver training school, numerical control processing training center and automobile electronic control testing center Training base. There are 510 teaching computers, 568 sets of various sports equipment, 300000 books and more than 300 Chinese and foreign periodicals in the library. It is equipped with a microcomputer retrieval system and two 596 seat electronic reading rooms.

The college has 340 teaching staff, including 232 full-time teachers, 6 full-time teachers with senior titles, 80 vice senior titles and 98 intermediate titles. There are 33 postgraduates, 3 doctors, 18 masters and 61 double qualified teachers. There are 24 external (re employed) teachers, 42 visiting professors from institutions of higher learning, scientific research and production units, and 68 training instructors from enterprises, animal husbandry and agricultural machinery stations (institutes). The college adheres to the road of combining teaching, scientific research and production, based on local, relying on local and serving local. Focusing on teaching and scientific research, relying on scientific research for development. He has successively presided over and completed more than 40 scientific research promotion projects, including 3 National harvest awards for agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery, 17 provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards, and more than 20 prefecture (Department) science and technology progress awards. He has edited and participated in the compilation of more than 140 teaching materials, and has published more than 1500 papers in journals at or above the provincial and ministerial level. The college has 5600 full-time students. It has formed a professional structure combining eight secondary professional categories of higher vocational education, including automobile, mechanical design and manufacturing, automation, mechanical and electrical equipment, electronic information, animal husbandry and veterinary, food and computer. A total of 28 specialties have been set up. Among them, numerical control technology, automobile detection and maintenance technology, mechanical design and manufacturing, machining technology and other majors are the national Skilled Talents Training Majors determined by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of labor and social security, animal husbandry and veterinary specialty is the national backbone specialty determined by the Ministry of education, and veterinary specialty is the provincial backbone demonstration specialty determined by the Department of education of Gansu Province.

The college makes full use of educational resources, gives full play to its own advantages, and implements multi-level and multi form education. There are "professional skill appraisal station of special type of work in agricultural industry", "84th national professional skill appraisal institute of Gansu Province", "national computer high tech examination station", "continuing education base of professional and technical personnel at provincial level of Gansu Province", "automobile driver training school" and so on. With Gansu Agricultural University, Lanzhou University of technology and other colleges and universities jointly opened the self-taught college class, undergraduate class. The college implements the teaching mode of "integration of teaching and certification" which combines curriculum content and qualification certification. Each student should obtain the professional qualification certificate, computer grade certificate, foreign language grade certificate and so on while obtaining the graduation certificate, so as to enhance the students' employment competitiveness.

At present, there are higher vocational classes, five-year consistent higher vocational classes, 3 + 2 higher vocational classes, self-taught undergraduate classes, self-taught college classes, adult secondary vocational classes and various short-term training classes. It has formed a multi standard, multi-level and multi form school running pattern with "higher vocational education as the main body, secondary vocational education and training as the two wings, academic education and non academic education simultaneously, pre service education and post service education coexisting".

The college adheres to the training mode of work study combination and school enterprise cooperation to carry out "order education". It has successively established "Dabei agricultural class" and "Jiugang class" with the name of enterprise. Through "order education" and "zero distance" training, a "through train" has been built for students' employment. Over the years, the employment rate of graduates of various majors has been maintained at more than 98%, forming a gratifying situation of "smooth export and prosperous enrollment".
