Guangdong Vocational and Technical College of light industry is a full-time higher vocational and technical school approved by the Ministry of education in 1999. It is sponsored by the people's Government of Guangdong Province and directly managed by the Department of education of Guangdong Province. Its predecessor is "the first vocational school of Guangdong Province", which was founded in 1933. Up to now, it has 83 years of vocational education history and has trained more than 90000 graduates for the society. At present, the school has 21700 full-time ordinary vocational students. In June 2006, the school accepted the Ministry of education higher vocational college personnel training level evaluation, the evaluation result is excellent. In 2007, it was listed as a provincial model university construction unit. In 2008, it was listed as the national model university construction unit. In June 2011, it passed the demonstration acceptance organized by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of finance.

The school has two campuses in Guangzhou and Nanhai, with a total area of 1500 mu (including 218 mu in Guangzhou), a building area of 440000 square meters, and a total value of 145.78 million yuan of teaching equipment. The school has 148205 square meters of experimental and training sites, 268 experimental and training rooms, 22 on campus productive training bases and 1205 off campus practice bases. At present, the school has 1200 teaching staff, 37% of the full-time teachers are teachers with senior professional titles, 86% of the full-time teachers are teachers with "double qualification", and 74% of the full-time teachers are teachers with master's degree or above. The school attaches importance to social oriented training. Since 2008, on the basis of further improving the training service capacity and service level of the existing 18 training institutions, 13 new training institutions have been established through school enterprise cooperation. By 2012, a total of 108821 person times have been trained, including 52306 person times for employees of small and medium-sized enterprises. In 2010, our school was recognized as one of the first batch of Guangzhou International Service Outsourcing training institutions by Guangzhou foreign trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau.
