[animal morphology] Chelonia nipponensis

The body is oblong, with hard scales on the back and abdomen, about 15 cm long. The head is slightly rectangular; the top of the head is smooth without scales, yellow green, with black lines on the side of the head and behind the eyes; the tympanic membrane is round and obvious. The snout is slightly pointed, the jaw has no teeth, and the neck can be retracted. The scales on the back are dark brown with distinct ridge ridges; the top scales are narrow and small; there are s scales on the back, the second, third and fourth ones are larger, and the fifth one is fan-shaped; there are 4 scales on both sides of costal scales; there are 11 scales on each side of marginal scales; there are 2 anal scales. The carapace is oblong, black and yellow in margin; there are 12 squamous carapace, which are connected by ligaments between the front and the back, and can move and close the carapace. The tip of the tail is short. There are scales on the back of the limbs, webbed fingers and toes, and hook claws.

It lives in mountains and streams. It is distributed in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hunan and Hubei.

It is similar in shape, but the dorsal shell has three longitudinal ridges, and the posterior edge of anal horn plate is concave.
