[plant morphology] crude bran firewood, also known as sandalwood, Osmanthus fragrans, liujianzi, feidaotong, pseudoosmanthus fragrans, xinfumu, liunianzi, jiamazi, hongguoguo, dafengnao and xiangshanteng.
Small evergreen trees, 8-10m high. Branchlets, young leaves and inflorescence were brown pilose. Leaves alternate, oblong ovate to ovate lanceolate, 7-16 cm long, base rounded, apex acuminate, entire or obtuse toothed, glabrous above, glandular 2 near base, pink white below, pilose and scattered red glandular dots, main vein 3; petiole 1-4 cm long. The flowers are unisexual, monoecious; the spikes are terminal or in the upper leaf axils; the flowers are small, without petals; the male inflorescence is solitary or in bundles, with many flowers, 5-8 cm long; the male calyx lobes are membranous; the female inflorescence is solitary, 3-7 cm long, with tubular calyx, 4-5 teeth, ovary and style with red gland spots. Capsule subglobose, 6-8 mm in diameter, surface without spines, densely covered with red powdery hairs; seeds globose, smooth. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from July to August.
It grows in the open forest of plain, stream and valley. Distribution in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Yunnan, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Taiwan and other places.

The results showed that the ethanol extract of fruit had a tapeworm killing effect in vitro and in vivo, and it was also effective on trematodes (e.g. Fasciola turcica, Fasciola hepatica, Fasciola fascicularis, etc.), but not on nematodes (e.g. Ascaris lumbricoides); the water extract was less effective, while the ether extract was between water and alcohol. Generally speaking, the effect is not strong, the ethanol extract 1:100 in vitro takes 1 hour to make the worm begin to die. The effective components of anthelmintic are Bupleurum toxin and isobupleurum toxin, and the latter is more effective. It can improve the tension and peristalsis of rabbit small intestine. It can be used as cathartic and insect repellent. The results showed that the toxin had anti fertilization effect, but the toxin had no effect.
