Semiwoody stout perennial. The fibrous roots are well developed, the underground stems are white, nodal and soft. The stem is short. The leaves are thick, fleshy, sword shaped, 100-150 cm long and 8-13 cm wide, with reddish brown spines at the apex, 2-3 cm long and short spines at the margin. The height of flower stem is 5-10m. Panicle terminal, perianth tube funnel-shaped, apex split, yellowish white; stamen 6; ovary inferior, calyx base gradually expanded after anthesis, forming clumps of bulbils, usually fruitless. Capsule oblong. The seeds are black and flat. After growing for 6-9 years or 10-15 years, it will blossom in autumn. When the flowers are ripe, the plants die.
