Perennial herbs, 15-35 cm high. The root is thick and fleshy. Stem erect, short, sparsely pilose or glandular. The leaf blade is oblong, 6-20 cm long and 2-4 cm wide, apex obtuse, entire or notched, both sides covered with pubescence or glandular hairs, margin more; petiole winged. Inflorescence stalk axillary, 1-3 flowers, yellow; calyx cylindric, about 1 cm long, with short obtuse teeth 5, rapidly enlarged into an elliptic sac with longitudinal ribs and reticulate veins when bearing fruit; corolla tubular, 2 cm long, hidden in the expanded calyx; stamens 5, hidden; disk annular, swollen under ovary; ovary 2-locular, ovules numerous. Fruit globose, vesicular. Seeds dark brown, reniform, slightly flattened.
It grows in high mountain, sandy land, arid grassland and roadside. It is distributed in Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu and other places.
[collection] in autumn, when the fruit is ripe, the seeds are collected and dried in the sun; in September to October, the roots are dug and dried in the sun.
