Deciduous shrub, 1-3 meters high, green or purple green twigs. Leaves alternate, ovoid or oval elliptic, 3-7 cm long, apex acute, base broad cuneate, upper edge of base denticulate, tooth tip apiculate, near the base there are bristle shaped bud teeth, both sides are smooth glabrous, light green; petiole 1-2.5 cm long, sometimes with needle shaped branching stipules, edge with eyelashes. The flowers are dioecious, green and white. The female flowers are solitary or 2-3 clustered near the center of the midrib on the top of the leaves. The male flowers form dense cymes with 10-12 petals. The petals are 3-5 triangular ovate. The male flowers have 3-5 stamens. The female flowers are hypogynous and the style is 3-5-lobed. Drupe subglobose, black, 3-5-ribbed. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit ripens in August.
It grows under the forest of 1000-2000 meters above sea level. It is distributed in Shaanxi, Henan, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Jiangxi, Anhui, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangdong. Guangxi and other places.

Deciduous shrub, up to 2-3 m high. Twigs yellowish brown. Leaves alternate, thinly leathery, oblanceolate or long elliptic lanceolate, 11-15 cm long and 1-4 cm wide, apex acuminate, with a pointed tail, base cuneate, margin spinose serrate, base entire; stipules margin obtuse. Deciduous shrub, 1-3m high, with purple green shoots. Leaves alternate, leathery or near leathery, linear lanceolate or lanceolate, 4-15 cm long, 9-20 mm wide, apex caudate, margin sparsely serrate except base, teeth sharp. The flowers are dioecious; the male flowers are in cymes, arising from the upper and middle parts of the tender branches or leaves; the pedicels are 2-10 (even to 25) mm long; the petals are 3-5, ovate, and the stamens are 3-5; the female flowers are sessile, with the middle part of the leaf surface, the lower part of the ovary, and the stigma 3-5-lobed. It grows in dense forest and humid place with altitude of 1200-2300m. It is distributed in Gansu, Hubei, Henan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangdong and other places.
