[source] this product is the dried whole herb of violayedoensis Makino, a Violaceae plant.

Harvest in spring and autumn, remove impurities and dry in the sun.

[character] the product is mostly shrunk into a ball. Taproot long conic, 1-3 mm in diameter, yellowish brown, with longitudinal wrinkles. The leaves are basal, grayish green, lanceolate or ovate lanceolate after flattening, 1.5-6cm long and 1-2cm wide; apex obtuse, base truncate or slightly cordate, margin obtuse serrate, both sides hairy; petiole thin, 2-6cm long, upper part with obvious narrow wings. Stems slender; petals 5, Viola or light brown; spurs tubulose. Capsule elliptic or 3-lobed, many seeds, light brown. It is slightly bitter and slightly sticky.

[identification] the transverse section of the leaves of this product: the upper epidermis cells are larger, the tangential direction is longer, the outer wall is thicker, the inner wall is sticky and liquefied, and often expands into a semicircle; the lower epidermis cells are smaller, with occasional mucous cells; the upper and lower epidermis have single cell non glandular hairs, 32-240 μ m in length, 24-32 μ m in diameter, with short horny lines. The palisade cells are 2-3 rows, and the sponge cells are round, containing calcium oxalate clusters, 11-40 μ m in diameter. The vascular bundle of the main vein is tough outside, and there are 1-2 rows of pachymocytes in the upper and lower epidermis.
