[plant morphology] Saposhnikovia divaricata
Perennial herbs, 30-50 cm high. It has long round taproot. Stems solitary or few tufted, all few glabrous. The basal leaves are 3-pinnate compound leaves, petiolate, 3-4 cm long; the lobes are long fusiform or linear lanceolate, entire, both ends acuminate, 3-5 parallel veins, obvious; the stem leaves are similar to the basal leaves, but the leaves are smaller, the petiole base embraces the stem, and the leaves at the top are almost not compound but simple. Compound umbel axillary or terminal; petiole 5-8, without involucre; petiole 10-20, unequal length, base with several involucres, narrowly lanceolate, glabrous; calyx teeth short triangle; petals 5, white, apex sharp, slightly inward curved; stamens 5, filaments curved, anthers longitudinally straight dehiscent; ovary ovate, style shorter. Suspensory fruit ovoid, purple brown, with prominent fruit edge, but not lignified. The flowering period is from August to September. The fruit period is from September to October.
It grows on the side of barren mountain road and in the grass on the hillside. It is distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou.
Saposhnikovia divaricata, a plant of the same genus, is used as medicine in Yunnan Province. The main difference is that the leaves are narrowly linear. See windbreak.
[collection] in spring and autumn, it can be dug, washed and dried.
[medicinal material] the dry roots are conical or long cylindrical, slightly curved, sometimes branched, 10-20 cm long, 0.5-1.5 cm in diameter, and grayish brown or brownish yellow in appearance. The head of the root sometimes expanded (up to 2 cm) or sometimes reduced, with obvious depressed stem marks at the top, fine ring lines and residual sheath fibers around. There are dense longitudinal wrinkles and long and protruding lenticels in the root, and sometimes there are fibrous root marks. It is solid, not easy to break, the section is not flat, the center is yellow xylem, the cortex accounts for most of the root, white, scattered brown oil spots, especially close to the cambium. It is fragrant, slightly sweet and astringent. It is better to have a large strip, thin yellow skin, white heart, chrysanthemum flower heart, oily and sweet taste.
