[plant morphology] purple flower eggplant, also known as yellow buckwheat, twisted eggplant wood, golden buckle, golden hanging willow.

Shrubs perennial, ca. 1 m tall, covered with gray stellate pubescence. Branches cylindrical, brown, with stout barbs. Leaves alternate; leaves oblong ovate, 2-5 cm long, 1.5-3.5 cm wide, apex obtuse, base unequal on both sides, sometimes sub truncate, margin irregularly undulate or lobed, both sides covered with stellate pubescence, especially under dense; petioles and both sides of leaves with scattered light brown spines. Cymes lateral; pedicels sparsely spiny, ca. 5 mm; flowers blue purple; calyx 5-lobed, lobes lanceolate; corolla shallow campanulate, folded before opening, lobes 5-lanceolate; stamens 5, inserted on corolla throat, anthers yellow, apically lobed; ovary 2-locular. Berries globose, yellow when ripe, glabrous and smooth. It blooms in spring.

Wild in grassland and hillside. Distributed in Yunnan, Guangdong, Sichuan, Taiwan and other places.
