[plant morphology] xiaotiller in Anhui Province
Evergreen or deciduous shrubs, about 2 meters high. Branchlets have concave grooves, yellow or red yellow when young, with verrucous protuberances; gray after the second year, old stem cork gray yellow, with longitudinal texture, yellow inside; spines trigeminal, thick, about 1-2 cm long, base about 1-2 mm thick. The leaves are hard, elliptic obovate, 2-5.5 cm long and 0.8-1.5 cm wide, apex pointed or obtuse, spiny, with 2-8 spiny teeth on the margin, slightly glossy on the top, white or grayish yellow on the bottom, with white powder, gradually narrowed to a petiole of about 8 mm at the base, or almost sessile. Raceme axillary, pendulous, pedicel 5-12 mm long; sepal 6, lower 2-3 bracts; petal 6, bright yellow, smaller than sepal, base with 2 nectaries; stamen 6, sensitive, two petals dehiscent; pistil 1, ovary ovoid, stigma sessile. Berry elliptic, or oblong ovate, about 6-10 mm long, with white powder, style persistent. It blooms in spring.
Distributed in Anhui, Jiangxi, Guizhou and other places.
