[plant morphology] Cinnamomum cassia, also known as red Cinnamomum cassia.
Trees, up to 15 m tall, glabrous or young branches slightly pilose. Leaves alternate, leathery, elliptic to oblong elliptic or obovate elliptic, 7-15 cm long, 3-7 cm wide, apex short, acuminate and obtuse, base cuneate or broad cuneate, entire, both sides bare, green above, bright, light below, or the same color, or brown; lateral veins about 7 pairs; petiole 8-12 mm long, bare. Flowers unisexual, monoecious; male inflorescence solitary in leaf axils, with short petiole, obovate or elliptic, 6-8 mm long, outside puberulent, perianth segments 2-3, stamen 1, erect; female perianth tubular, lower part buried in common axis, ovary straight. The fruit is succulent, subglobose, 2-3 cm in diameter, covered with rust colored pubescence when young, nearly bald, smooth, yellow or red when ripe. The flowering period is from April to May.
