[plant morphology] Chimonanthus praecox
Deciduous shrub, 1-3 m high. The bark is grayish white or grayish brown, and the lenticels are raised. Leaves opposite, membranous, broadly ovate elliptic, rounded to obovate, 18-26 cm long and 11.5-16 cm wide, apex acute or short, base rounded, entire or irregularly serrate, covered with brown bristles along veins when young. The outer perianth segments are 12-14, petal shaped, white, with purplish red edge. The inner perianth segments are 9-12, with corona, thick flesh, light yellow, with purplish red fine stripes scattered at the base of ventral surface. The stamens are mostly with short filaments, and the pistils are mostly in bundles Ovary in depressed receptacle. Achenes oblong, 1-1.3 cm long, brown, sparsely white sericeous.
It is suitable for moist and humus soil. It grows in the shrub of hillside and the forest beside stream. It is distributed in Zhejiang Province.
