[plant morphology] Torreya grandis (bielu), also known as Yeshan (compendium), Torreya grandis, Torreya grandis.

Evergreen trees, up to 25 m high. Bark gray brown, branches open, branchlets glabrous. The leaves are pseudodiallel, linear lanceolate, 1.2-2.5 cm in length and 2-3 mm in width. The narrower they are, the narrower they are toward the upper part. The apex of the leaf is pointed, the base is almost round, the whole leaf is hard, dark yellow green above, glossy, light green below, and the middle rib is obvious. There is a concave yellow white stomatal belt on both sides. Flowers unisexual, usually dioecious; male inflorescence elliptic to oblong, with total pedicels, stamens arranged in 4-8 rings, anthers 4-locular; female flowers sessile, paired, only one flower developed, base with several pairs of alternate opposite bracts, ovule 1, straight. The seeds are drupe shaped, rectangular elliptic or obovate oblong, 2-3 cm long, with small apex, reddish brown and irregular longitudinal groove at the apex; endosperm shrinks or slightly shrinks. The flowering period is April. The seed ripening period is October of the next year.

[herbal medicine] the dried seeds are oval in shape, 2-4cm in length, with grayish yellow or yellowish brown surface, longitudinal wrinkles, blunt round at one end and oval scar at the other end. There is a small protuberance on both sides of the seed, slightly pointed at the other end. The shell is hard and brittle, and the inner surface is reddish brown after breaking, with hemp lines. The seed kernel is oval, wrinkled and solid, with grayish brown wrinkled membrane on the surface, yellow white and oily. The air is slightly fragrant and the taste is slightly sweet. Large, thin shell, yellow white kernel, no oil, no broken is better.

It is mainly produced in Zhejiang, Hubei, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hunan, Jiangxi and Fujian.
