Small trees. Bark brown, branchlets hairy or smooth. Leaves alternate, often gathered at the top of branches; leathery; elliptic, obovate to oblong elliptic, 5-10 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, apex apical, base narrowly cuneate, rarely rounded, margin sparsely crenate, hairy or nearly smooth; petiole 5-8 mm long. Flowers white, solitary below leaves or axils; pedicels 4-8 mm long, but also 2 cm long; bracteoles 2, lanceolate; sepals 5, similar to bracts; corolla 5, broadly ovoid; stamens numerous, filaments base United. Capsule oblate, 5-ribbed. The flowering period is April.
It grows in the forest edge and half shade of low mountain area. It is distributed from central China to Sichuan.
