Each round has 5-6 persistent calyx with short stalk and 2 opposite bracts below. Bracts reniform, yellowish brown, longitudinal veins distinct, base cuneate, apex acutely caudate, abaxially with coarse white hairs, persistent calyx lip shaped, upper lip broad, apex 3-lobed, lower lip 2-lobed, lobes acutely triangular, outer hairy. The corolla and stamens have fallen off. There are 4 nutlets in the persistent calyx, brown and glossy. The body is light and crisp, with slight fragrance and light taste. Purple brown and big ear are the best.
It is mainly produced in Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Henan and other provinces.
In Tibet and Yunnan, the flower and fruit ears of Prunella setosa are used as medicine.
[chemical constituents] the whole herb contains triterpenoid saponins. Its aglycone is oleanolic acid. It also contains free oleanolic acid, ursolic acid, rutin, Hyperoside, CIS caffeic acid, trans caffeic acid, vitamin B1, vitamin C, vitamin K, carotene, resin, bitterness, tannin, volatile oil, alkaloids, water-soluble salts (about 3.5%, of which about 63% is potassium chloride), etc.
The anthocyanins of delphinidin and cyanidin, d-camphor, d-anisone and ursolic acid were found in the spikes.
(1) antihypertensive effect
The water extract, ethanol water extract and 30% ethanol extract of Prunella vulgaris have the effect of reducing blood pressure in anesthetized animals. The decoction (100 mg / kg) injected into anesthetized dogs can produce significant and lasting antihypertensive effect, but it is easy to produce rapid tolerance, such as taking Prunella vulgaris to dogs with skin bridge. For renal hypertensive dogs, the blood pressure decreased moderately after 2 weeks of continuous administration, and returned to the original level after withdrawal. Prunella vulgaris stem, leaf, spike and the whole grass all had hypotensive effect, but the effect of spike was weak. After vagotomy, the hypotensive effect of Prunella vulgaris decreased significantly. It is suggested that the depressurization is not caused by the inhibition of the heart. The decoction can dilate blood vessels in the perfusion of Toad's lower limbs. When the dosage of total Acer free salt of Prunella vulgaris is equal to that of the decoction, there is no obvious antihypertensive effect. When the dosage of Prunella vulgaris is more than twice that of the decoction, the antihypertensive degree is only 1 / 4-1 / 6 of that of the decoction. Although the antihypertensive effect appears later, it lasts for a long time. Therefore, it is considered that the antihypertensive effect of Prunella vulgaris has nothing to do with the inorganic salt contained in it. In recent years, some people have repeatedly verified the above-mentioned experiments. It is found that the tincture (30% alcohol) of Prunella vulgaris stems and leaves contains a high potassium content, about 83 mEq / ml, and a small amount of potassium in the ear. Oral administration has no obvious antihypertensive effect on normal anesthetized dogs. After removing the inorganic salt, the antihypertensive effect of the decoction is very small, that is, intravenous injection of Prunella vulgaris has no antihypertensive effect on anesthetized animals In addition to the inorganic salt (mainly potassium), its antihypertensive components and antihypertensive mechanism need to be studied.
② Antibacterial action
According to the preliminary test in vitro, Prunella vulgaris decoction has inhibitory effect on Shigella dysentery, Salmonella typhi, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli, proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus, and has broad antibacterial spectrum. Its water extract (1:4) also has some inhibitory effect on some common pathogenic skin fungi in vitro. Prunella vulgaris can reduce the pathological changes of lung in mice with experimental tuberculosis.
③ Other functions
Prunella vulgaris Decoction (1:50-1:200) can make rabbit uterus appear tetanic contraction in vitro. High concentration can enhance peristalsis of isolated rabbit intestines. It has been reported that Prunella vulgaris decoction can inhibit the growth of s-160 tumor and Ehrlich ascites cancer in mice, but the death rate is higher than that in the control group, so it is a toxic effect.
