[plant morphology] Rosa rugosa
Deciduous shrub, 3-4m high. The stem is erect, with flat broad skin spines; the young branches are densely clustered, with spiny hairs. Leaflets 9-17, oblong to oblong elliptic, 8-25 mm long, apex rounded or apical, base suborbicular, margin with sharp teeth, lower midrib with very fine hairs; stipules oblanceolate, at the base of petiole. The flowers are white, solitary, 3-4 cm in diameter; sepals are 4, lanceolate; petals are 4, obovate; stamens and pistils are numerous, enclosed in a pot like receptacle, styles protruding out of the receptacle, united into a head. The fruit is pear shaped, bright red, with persistent calyx at the top and yellow fleshy peduncle. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from August to September.
Born in Alpine coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest or shrub, like loose and fertile soil. Distributed in Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Henan and other places.
