[plant morphology] wulanglong
Climbing shrubs, up to 4 meters long. The root bark is golden yellow, and there are five rings in the section. The bark is gray black, with many branches and spindles on the branchlets. Leaves opposite, leathery, elliptic, long elliptic to ovate elliptic, 5-11 cm long and 2-5 cm wide, apex obtuse or short acuminate, base cuneate, margin with shallow obtuse teeth, glossy on both sides. The flowers are small, pale yellow, 3-6 gathered on the tumor like protuberances in the leaf axils; sepals 5, very small, equilateral triangle; petals 5, broadly ovate, widely spread or curved; stamens 3, filaments short, flat, anthers divergent, disk cup-shaped, surrounding ovary; styles short, conical. Fruit globose, about 1 cm in diameter, red at maturity, with short stalks and persistent calyx, 1 seed. The flowering period is from December to January next year.

[chemical constituents] the root bark contains mangiferin, euonyl, catechuic acid, rubber, etc. It is also called wulanglong, which contains uninhibited terpene-1-one-3, uninhibited terpane dione-1,3-ol-7 and uninhibited terpane dione-1,3-aldehyde-24.
[pharmacological action] euonyl, namely galactitol, is isomeric with mannitol and sorbitol. It is rarely metabolized in human body (21%). It can neither relieve insulin shock nor cause diabetes. It can be used as a precursor of liver glycogen in rats.
It is astringent and warm.
Functions and indications: Tongjing Huoluo, Qufeng dehumidification. Treatment of rheumatic joint capsule, lumbar muscle strain, body weakness.
