[medicinal materials] the stem of the dried fruit stalk is slightly curved with longitudinal edges and slightly shrunk; the end connecting the fruit is gradually expanded, which is the residue of calyx. Surface yellowish brown, sometimes with curly pericarp. It is flexible and not easy to break. It tastes bitter. It is better to be dry, yellow and with a little fruit stalk.

It is produced in most parts of the country.

[pharmacological action] effect on gastrointestinal tract. One oral method: take 6 g (dry product) of immature melon pedicel, put it into a small mouth bottle, add 100 ml of boiling water, soak it for 10 minutes, heat it, wait for the bottle mouth to slightly exhale for about 3-4 minutes, then close the bottle mouth tightly; after 10 days, take it out and filter it for 3-4 times, and then take it after autoclaving for 3-4 hours (so as to reduce side effects). The liver swelling recovered to within 1.5cm below the costal margin, 35.92% within 30 days and 97.09% within 40 days. The jaundice disappeared within 5 days and 95.14% within 10 days. All the cases with positive urine three gallbladder test and abnormal liver function returned to normal after treatment. Follow up observation for 1-2 years showed no liver cirrhosis or death. No side effects were observed.
