[plant morphology] Zizania latifolia
Perennial herbs, 5-15 cm high. Rhizome fleshy, often divided into several branches. They are monoecious or dioecious, with dark red stems, 5-8 bracts at the base, ovoid, 1.5-2.5 cm long. The male inflorescence is rod-shaped; the male flower is sessile; the perianth lobes are 4-6, slightly fleshy; the filaments are hemispherical, with about 20 anthers of unequal size; the female inflorescence is long ovate, 2-4 cm long, with dense female flowers; the ovary is long ovate, and the appendage is rod-shaped elliptic. The flowering period is from October to December.
It grows in mountain or valley forests and parasitizes on the roots of broad-leaved trees. It is distributed all over South China.
