[plant morphology] water lily
Perennial aquatic herb, rhizome with linear black hairs. Petiole 3-5 cm wide or obtuse below, apex 3-5 cm long; apex 3-5 cm red or obtuse above; apex 3-5 cm long. The flowers float on the water surface, 4-5cm in diameter, white, flowering at noon, converging at 5pm; the base of calyx is square, sepals are 4; petals are 8-17, multilayer; stamens are numerous, 3-4 layers, anthers are yellow; stigmas radiate 4-8 numbers, broadly ovate, teaspoon shaped. The berry is spherical, soft, with many small seeds. It blooms in summer.
It grows in ponds and lakes. It is distributed in most parts of the country.
