[plant morphology] perennial herb. The stoloniferous rhizome is light yellow, with many fleshy roots and usually 2 leaves at the top. The leaves are large, thick, oval, 16-20cm long, 8-10cm wide, apex acute, base heart-shaped; petiole fleshy, 14-20cm long, sparsely pubescent. The flowers are large, solitary, stem apical, 6 cm in diameter, purple brown; the petiole is 2-9 cm long; the perianth tube is short, the lobes are 3, broadly ovate, 3 cm long and 4 cm wide; the base has white transverse wrinkles; the stamens are 12. Capsule fleshy, subglobose. Seeds conic, apex acuminate, abaxial surface nearly smooth.
It grows in shady and wet places under hillside forests and by streams. It is distributed in Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
