Bidens bipinnata

Annual herb, 40-85 cm high. Stem erect, lower part purplish, tetragonal, glabrous, or slightly hairy on upper branches. The middle and lower leaves are opposite, 11-19 cm long, 2-pinnately lobed, lobes lanceolate or ovate lanceolate, apex pointed or acuminate, margin with irregular spicules or obtuse teeth, both sides slightly short hairy, long petiole; upper leaves alternate, smaller, pinnately divided. Capitulum 6-10 mm in diameter, pedunculate, 1.8-8.5 cm in length; involucre cup-shaped, bracts linear elliptic, apex pointed or obtuse, covered with short hairs; receptacle elliptic, apex obtuse, 4-12 mm in length, flowers miscellaneous, margin ligulate yellow, usually 1-3 sterile; central tubular yellow, bisexual, hologamous, 4.5 mm in length, 5 lobes; stamens 5, polygenetic Pistil 1, stigma 2-lobed. Achene long linear, body length 12-18 mm, width about 1 mm, with 3-4 edges, short hair; apical crown awn shaped, 3-4, length 2-5 mm. The flowering period is from August to September. The stem is slightly square and the young stem has pubescence. The leaves are papery and brittle, and often shriveled and broken, often falling off. [pharmacological action] the same amount of Bidens bipinnata and Haizhou mixed water decoction or alcohol extract was orally given to rats at a dose of 10 g (crude drug) / kg / day for five days. It had obvious anti-inflammatory effect on formaldehyde and egg white arthritis. The decoction of Herba Siegesbeckiae mixed with Haizhou Changshan is as effective as oral administration, which indicates that Bidens bipinnata can be used as an anti-inflammatory drug instead of Spartina. There was no obvious effect of Bidens bipinnata, Haizhou Changshan and Carex, which indicated that they had mutually reinforcing effect. It is also effective to combine them temporarily after preparation, which indicates that their effects are enhanced after mixing, and they are not new components. Although the total alkaloids and steroids isolated from the compound have anti-inflammatory effects, their effects are weak and seem to be the main components. It contains a lot of choline, non anti-inflammatory ingredients, but can cause side effects such as saliva secretion, tears and so on.

The ethanol extract of Bidens bipinnata had antibacterial effect on Gram-positive bacteria in vitro, and the flower and stem also had antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus.

[clinical application] ① treatment of appendicitis

Take 0.5-1 liang of dry Bidens bipinnata (1.5 liang of fresh Bidens bipinnata) and decoct it, or take it with rock sugar, sugar and sugar, one dose a day. 35 cases (complicated with other symptoms, temporary use of symptomatic drugs), including 21 cases of subacute appendicitis, 16 cases cured, 5 cases effective; 14 cases of chronic appendicitis, 9 cases cured, 3 cases effective, 2 cases ineffective. At least one dose, at most 40 doses, and more than half of them 1-3 doses. In 22 cases, fever subsided in more than half of the cases in 1-3 days, and the longest case's temperature returned to normal in 12 days. The pain in the right lower abdomen was relieved or disappeared in about 5 days on average, and the disappearance rate was 80%. There was no side effect in the course of treatment.

② Zhining for infantile diarrhea

Take 6-10 fresh Bidens bipinnata (3-5 dry ones) and soak them in water, then fry them into thick juice, and pour the residue into the basin for fumigating and washing children's feet. The patients with mild diarrhea were fumigated 3-4 times a day, and those with severe diarrhea were fumigated 6 times a day.
