Perennial herbs, 30-120 cm high. The root is conical. Stem erect, simple, upper branched. The basal leaves and lower leaves are papery, round to broadly ovate, 5-9 cm long, 2-3 times pinnate division, and the final lobes are rhomboid obovate, irregularly pinnate, with circular serrations; the petiole is 6-20 cm long, with broad sheath at the base, embracing the stem; the top leaves grow on the expanded leaf sheath. Compound umbel, terminal or axillary, pedicel 7-18, unequal, without involucre, bracteoles lanceolate, ciliate; calyx 5, short triangle; petals white, broadly ovate or nearly round, apex with inward curved tongue; stamens 5, anthers ovate; ovary hairy, style 2, very short. Suspensory fruit elliptic or ovoid, smooth glabrous, dorsal and median edge linear, lateral edge with narrow wings. The flowering period is from August to October. The fruit period is from October to November.
It is wild in the grass on the sunny hillside. It is distributed in Shandong, Shaanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan and other places.

Perennial herbs, 70-140 cm high. Root conic, brown yellow to brown, fragrant. Stem erect, simple, round, with edge on the surface and few branches on the upper part. The basal and lower leaves are papery, triangular and broadly ovate, 1-2 pinnately divided, 1-5 lobes, 3-5 lobes, 3-5 lobes, and 3-5 lobes. The leaves are axially winged, the terminal lobes and lateral lobes are connected at the base, and the base extends downward into wings. The final lobes are narrowly ovate or oblong, with sharp teeth. The upper leaves of the stem are simplified as leaf sheaths. Wild on hillsides, roadsides or under the jungle. It is distributed in Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan and Taiwan.

(1) Peucedanum praeruptorum
Also known as yunqianhu, xinqianhu. The main root is conical, cylindrical or spindle shaped, slightly curved or branched, but the root end and branch root are mostly removed, 3-9 cm long and 1-1.5 cm in diameter. The surface is dark brown or grayish yellow. There are stem marks and residual coarse hairs (leaf sheath) on the head of the root. The upper part of the root is densely crinkled, mostly black, and the lower part is longitudinally furrowed and wrinkled, with transverse lenticels and fibrous root marks. It is soft and easy to break; the section is loose; the bark is the main part of the root, the surrounding is milky white, the inner layer has yellowish brown ring, the central xylem is narrow, with yellowish white chrysanthemum pattern; a little golden, scattered, most. It's fragrant, sweet and bitter. It's better to be neat, long, yellow white and fragrant.
It is mainly produced in Zhejiang, Hunan and Sichuan. In addition, it is also produced in Guangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei and Jiangxi.
② Peucedanum purpureum
Taproot divergent or lateral. The main root is cylindrical, 8-15 cm long and 0.8-1.7 cm in diameter, with stem marks and residual coarse hairs (leaf sheath) on the head of the root; several lateral roots, 7-30 cm long and 2-4 mm in diameter, are thin cylindrical. The surface of the root is dark brown or grayish yellow, with fine longitudinal wrinkles and grayish white lenticels. The main root is solid, not easy to break, the section is uneven, the bark and wood are easy to separate, the bark is narrow, light brown, scattered yellow oil spots, close to the cambium; the central essence is yellowish white, accounting for the majority of the root; the branch root is brittle and soft, easy to break, the wood is nearly white. It has fragrance, light taste, bitter and pungent. It's better to be neat, long, solid, yellow white and fragrant.
It is mainly produced in Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangxi. In addition, it is also produced in Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi and other places.
In addition to the above two species, there are also the roots of the same genus, shifangfeng, which are also used as Peucedanum in Shaanxi, Hebei, Henan, Guangxi and other places, and are commercially known as "hard seedling Peucedanum". See "stone windbreak" section.
[chemical constituents] the root of Peucedanum praeruptorum contains about 1.61% coumarins. It also contains sponge sterol, mannitol and volatile oil. The main components of the volatile oil were actosterol and limonene. The roots of Peucedanum praeruptorum contain Peucedanum a, B, C and D.

② Bencao Huiyan: "Qianhu is a medicine for dispersing wind and cold, clearing exterior evil, warming lung qi and eliminating phlegm and cough. For example, for the syndrome of cold, cough, phlegm and asthma, heavy voice and excessive Qi, the evil is also in the lung meridian; for the syndrome of typhoid, headache, aversion to cold, fever and bone pain, the evil is also in the bladder meridian; for the syndrome of chest and flank fullness and qi stagnation, the evil is also in the middle diaphragm. In addition, she has fever during pregnancy and is unwilling to eat; in children, she has fever and has no sore rash; in adults, she has phlegm heat and refuses to block the adverse Qi. This evil Qi is blocked between the Li and Li, and can be treated with Peucedanum.
