[plant morphology] Brassica oleracea L

Biennial stout erect herbs, 30-60 cm high. The whole plant is smooth and glabrous. The stem is short, 2-4 cm above the ground, and begins to expand into a hard, oblong, spherical or oblate, leafy, fleshy bulb with a diameter of 5-10 cm or more; the outer skin is usually light green, sometimes green or purple, and the inner flesh is white. The leaves are 20-40 cm long, of which 1 / 2-1 / 3 are petioles; the leaves are oval or oval, oblong, smooth, covered with white powder, with obvious teeth or notches on the edge, and usually 1-2 lobes near the base; the leaves on the flower stem are similar to the stem leaves but smaller, and the petioles are weak. Flowers yellow white; racemes arranged long; sepals 4, narrow and erect; petals 4, spreading like a cross; stamens 4 strong; pistils 1, ovary superior, stigma capitate. The pod is long cylindrical, beak often very short, and inflated at the base. Seeds small, globose, 1-2 mm in diameter, with tiny dens. It blooms in spring.
