[plant morphology] leopard, also known as Platycodon grandiflorum, milkvetch vine, duckweed, floating bottle and golden thread hanging gourd.
Perennial twining herbs. The main root is fat, fleshy, beige and few fibrous roots. Stem slender, light green, smooth, glabrous. Single leaf opposite, ovate heart-shaped, 2-7 cm long, 1-5 cm wide, apex pointed, margin obtuse serrate, base deep, heart-shaped, both sides glabrous; petiole almost as long as leaf blade. Flowers campanulate, solitary in leaf axils, bisexual; sepals 5, lanceolate or ovate lanceolate, 1.5 cm long, base slightly united; corolla yellowish green, with purple stripes, 2-3 cm in diameter, lobes 5, involute outward; stamens 5, filaments separated; pistils 1, ovary superior, 4-5-locular, rarely 3-locular. Berries hemispherical and flat, ca. 12 mm in diam. The seeds are numerous. The flowering period is from August to September.
Born on the sunny slope of low mountain area. It is distributed in the South and southwest of China.
