[source] it is the whole plant of Euphorbiaceae.
[plant morphology] Maoyan grass, also known as Euphorbia auriculata and Maoyan grass.
Perennial herbs, more than 30 cm high. Stem thin and round, from the base part of the branch, containing white milk. Leaf blade linear, about 3 cm long, less than 3 mm wide, apex slightly pointed or obtuse, base tapering into an inconspicuous short stalk, entire. Cyme terminal; branching 3 times; bracts ovate triangular or broad triangular, involucre 2, round; ovary 3-locular, style 3, separated, apex 2-lobed. Capsule triangular globose, ca. 2 mm in diam., surface yellow. Seeds oblong ovate, yellow.
It grows on the hillside and beside the road. Distributed in Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Xinjiang, northeast and other places.
[chemical constituents] the stems and leaves contain flavonoid glycosides, sterols, volatile oil, phenols, organic acids, amino acids and waxes. Ambrosin I-VI was isolated from aerial parts, and ambrosin V and VI were also isolated from seeds.
[pharmacological effects] 1. Antitussive, expectorant and antiasthmatic effects
The above ground part of Euphorbia auriculata suggests that flavonoid glycosides have antitussive effect on ammonia induced cough in mice, and phenol red method in mice also has expectorant effect, but it has no preventive effect on histamine induced asthma in guinea pigs.
② Antibacterial action
In vitro, alcohol extract (1:1000) and water decoction (1:300) had inhibitory effect on tubercle bacillus. According to cloud, it also had inhibitory effect on Diplococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus A, Catacoccus and influenza bacillus.

[clinical application] treatment of chronic tracheitis
Dosage form and usage: one tablet: each tablet contains 0.25g of Maoyan crude drug, 6 tablets each time, 3 times a day, 20 days as a course of treatment; or with Maoyan (root), Tinglizi, Shashen and other sub grinding, without adjuvant, made into 0.5g tablets. Four tablets each time, three times a day, 10 days as a course of treatment, the interval of treatment was 7-10 days. Two injections: 30% and 80% injections were intramuscularly injected 4 ml once a day, 10 days as a course of treatment, with an interval of 5-7 days; 50% injections were intramuscularly injected 2 ml once a day, 15 days as a course of treatment, with an interval of 10 days. Curative effect: through clinical observation of 545 cases, the short-term control rate of various dosage forms was 72.7% for single tablet, 68.9% for compound tablet and 20-62% for injection. Side effects: dizziness, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and appetite discomfort occurred in individual patients after medication, which did not affect the continued treatment.
