[plant morphology] Hainan Shao
Herbaceous or woody vines. The branches are yellowish green with fine stripes. Single leaf alternate, thin leathery, ovate, oblong elliptic or elliptic, sparse ovate lanceolate, about 6-10 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, apex acuminate, slightly obtuse, base round, sometimes broadly cuneate, entire, often covered with white frost below, with very rare pilose, 5 main veins, less than 7, all basal; petiole 1-2.5 cm long. Flowers unisexual, dioecious, small, integrated spikes; male inflorescence 7-12 cm long; bracts obovate to obovate oblong, shield shaped, with glandular spots on the surface; stamens 4; female inflorescence 8-15 cm long, ovary obovate, stigma 4-lobed. Berry oblong fusiform, striate, ca. 5 mm long, apex with short persistent style. The flowering period is from March to May.
It is found in the wet place under the gully, sparse forest or valley forest. It is distributed in Guangxi, Guangdong and other places.

Function indications: dispelling wind, relieving pain and strengthening stomach. Treatment of stomach cold pain, dyspepsia, abdominal distension, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic ulcer, eczema.
[usage and dosage] oral: decoction, 3-5 yuan. External use: wash with boiling water.
