[plant morphology] Equisetum

Herbs perennial, more than 50 cm high. The rhizome is short, black, creeping, with dark brown roots on nodes. The stem is tufted, hard, erect, unbranched, cylindric, 4-8 mm in diameter, with articulated nodes and hollow internodes. There are 20-30 longitudinal ribs on the surface of the stem, and each ridge has two rows of verrucous protuberances. The leaves degenerate into scaly, the base united into tubular sheath, the sheath is 6-10 mm long, the base has a dark brown ring, the upper part is light gray, the apex has many brown fine dentate lobes, the lobes are lanceolate conical, the apex is long, sharp, the back center has a shallow groove, the lobes fall early, only in the stem apex and young stem does not fall off. The sporangium spike is at the top of the stem, oblong, 1-1.5 cm long, with a small dark brown tip at the apex. It is composed of many hexagonal shield shaped sporophylls arranged in a round shape. Along the edge of the sporophyll, there are two sporangia, the sporangia are large. Most of the spores are of the same type, spherical in shape, with two filamentous elastase, crisscross in shape. They are wound around the small spores, which can be opened in case of water for reproduction. The sporangium spikes were drawn out from June to August.

It grows in shady and wet places under hillside forests, Riverside wetlands and streams. It likes shady and wet environment and sometimes grows in mixed grassland. Distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Anhui, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Qinghai and other places.

[medicinal material] the dried whole grass is long tubular, hollow, nodal and unbranched. They are 30-60 cm in length, 5 mm in diameter and 3-6 cm in length. It is mainly produced in Northeast China, Shaanxi, Hubei and other places.

In addition, it was found that 17.6% of the cases had some damage to liver function, which may be due to the long time, large dose and no gap in the course of treatment.
