[plant morphology] Jiexiang (qunfangpu), also known as termite tree, lemon flower tree and snowflake tree.

Deciduous shrub, up to 2 m high, covered with silky villous or hirsute hairs, more dense when young. The branches are brownish red, often 3-forked, with lenticels. Single leaf alternate, usually clustered at branch ends, papery, elliptic oblong or elliptic lanceolate, 8-16 cm long, 2-3.5 cm wide or slightly wide, base cuneate, decurrent, apex acute or obtuse, entire, sparsely hairy above, few glabrous behind, pink green below, hirsute below, veins especially dense, veins raised. Flowers numerous, yellow, fragrant, terminal head, pendulous; total pedicel stout, densely sericeous, involucre pilose, pedicel absent or very short: calyx cylindric, outside sericeous pilose, lobes 4, petaloid, ovate, spreading; apetalous; stamens 8, 2-whorled, inserted on the upper part of calyx tube, filaments very short, anthers oblong; ovary elliptic, sessile, only 2-whorled Upper part pilose, 1-locular, ovule 1, style slender, stigma linear cylindrical, pilose. Drupe ovate, usually enclosed at the base of perianth, pericarp leathery, hard and brittle. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruiting period is about August.

It grows in hillside, valley, forest and shrub or cultivated. Distributed in Henan, Shaanxi, Hebei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Sichuan and other places.

[collection] at the end of winter or early spring, the flower inflorescences were collected and dried.

[medicinal materials] most of them are scattered single flower buds, and a few of them are head like inflorescences, which are generally called new Menghua or menghuazhu. Inflorescence hemispherical, slightly like the head of sunflower. The flowers have 6-9 involucral bracts, and the total pedicels are hooked and curved, all covered with yellowish Tricholoma. A single bud is short rod-shaped, slightly curved, 6-8 mm long and 3-5 mm in diameter, and the surface is densely covered with light yellow or gray white lustrous silk like Tricholoma. It is better to be dry and free of impurities.
