Deciduous shrub, up to 4 m high. Branches acupunctured, branchlets yellowish brown, or partly densely covered with silvery white scales. Leaves alternate, papery, elliptic to obovate lanceolate, 3-9 cm long and 1.5-5 cm wide, apex obtuse to apical, base rounded to broadly cuneate, margin usually curled, with silvery white scales or stellate hairs when young, falling off when old, silvery white or mixed brown scales below; petiole 5-7 mm long. Flowers axillary, yellowish white, fragrant, with scales outside, about 1.2 cm long The perianth tube is funnel-shaped, with 4-lobed upper part, and the tube is longer than the lobes. The stamens are 4. The style is sparsely white stellate pilose, and the fruit is nearly spherical to ovoid, 6-8 mm long. There are silver white or brown scales at the beginning, red at maturity, and flowering in may to June. The fruit period is from September to October.

It grows in dry hillside, sand land and shrub. It is distributed in the Yangtze River Basin and its north.
