Deciduous subshrub, about 1 m high. Branches with yellowish stellate hairs. Leaves ovate, narrowly ovate or lanceolate, 8-16 cm long and 2-6 cm wide, apex short acuminate, base rounded, lower leaves sometimes 3-lobed, margin with irregular teeth, base often with 3-5 veins, both sides stellate pilose; petiole 1-5 cm long, pilose; stipules conical, about 5-10 mm long. Cyme, axillary; flowers yellow, 1 cm long; pedicel about 6-10 mm long; sepals 5, linear, about 7 mm long, apically apically apically apically with sparse stellate hairs; petals 5, nearly as long as sepals, rounded spatulate, base ciliated; stamens 10. Capsule globose, ca. 5 mm in diam., densely spiny, spines 6-10 mm long, apex hooked recurved, with flat hispid hairs. 8 seeds. The flowering period is from July to September. The fruit period is from August to December.
It grows in the shrubbery of dry sunny slope, roadside and ridge. Distributed in Taiwan, Guangxi, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places.
