Perennial herbs. Stemless or shortly stemmed. Root leaves oblong oblanceolate, rosette shaped, with pinnate notch, lobes obtuse, margin with yellow long spines and short spines. The inflorescences are dense, large, 3-4 cm in diameter, all tubular, purple, with lower tube 1 / 3-1 / 2 longer than upper tube; involucral bracts linear or lanceolate, apex spiny.
