[source] it is the dry root tuber of Ophiopogon japonicus (Thunb) Ker Gawl. In summer, they were dug, washed, repeatedly exposed to the sun and piled up until 70% to 80% dry. The fibrous roots were removed and dried.
[character] the product is spindle shaped with slightly pointed ends, 1.5-3cm in length and 0.3-0.6cm in diameter. The surface is yellowish white or light yellow with fine longitudinal lines. It is flexible in quality, yellow white in cross section, translucent, and small in central column. The gas is slightly fragrant, and the taste is sweet and slightly bitter.

[function and indications] nourishing yin and promoting fluid, moistening lung and clearing heart. It is used for lung dry cough, deficiency tuberculosis cough, fluid injury, thirst, insomnia, internal heat thirst, intestinal dry constipation, pharyngeal diphtheria.
Yangyin Shengjin, Runfei Zhike: used for deficiency of Yin in lung and stomach, thirst, dry cough and hemoptysis; palpitation due to deficiency of heart Yin, easily startled and body fluid injured by heat in later stage of fever. Combined with Radix Glehniae and Rhizoma Fritillariae can treat dry cough due to deficiency of lung yin.

[should avoid] diarrhea due to deficiency of spleen and stomach, phlegm and dampness in stomach, and cough due to severe wind and cold should not be taken.
