It is shaped like an ant, with brown hair scattered all over the body. Its Coleoptera are very short, rectangular, dark blue or dark green. Antennae filiform, terminal for dark brown. The gill consists of three or four segments. The fourth segment is very short and the end is verrucous and dark brown. The posterior head is neck shaped, and the two segments of the head and tail are black. The prothoracic plate is slightly ovate, and its abdomen and feet are reddish brown.

Most of them live near fields, ditches and corn roots. They have phototaxis and often fly in late summer.
