[chemical constituents] the bulb contains lycorine and Narcissus alkaloids.

[pharmacological action] Narcissus alkaloids have cholinergic effects on frog heart, cat blood pressure and small intestine of guinea pig; on nerve muscle specimens, they can increase the muscle contraction caused by nerve stimulation, but the above effects are weaker than galanthamine. The results showed that the subcutaneous injection of 5 mg / kg pachydrine could accelerate the formation of exercise defensive conditioned reflex in mice, and the large dose (25-100 mg / kg) could enhance the anesthetic effect of chloral hydrate.
